Just a few kilometers from the urban center lies the Assut de Lledó, a natural area located alongside the Algars River. The river flows through this landscape between rocks, vegetation, and small areas of calm water, especially attractive during the warmer months. The surroundings form part of a Mediterranean landscape where pine forests, olive trees, almond trees, and river vegetation mix. The Algars River also stands out for the clarity of its waters and the natural value of its environment. I spent many summers in Lledó, enjoying the Algars River, the water, and the nature surrounding it. That's why, during a recent vacation when I visited my parents, who live about 30 minutes from the Assut, I took the opportunity to return to this special place. These photographs are from that visit. Returning to the river, the bridge, and the landscape after so many years made me remember those summers and reminded me why this corner remains so special to me. 🏊 A place to enjoy the water One of the main reasons visitors come to the Algars River during the warmer months is the opportunity to enjoy the water in a completely natural environment. The Via Verde Val de Zafán, a route of approximately 135 km, runs over the river. It follows the old route of a railway line that connected La Puebla de Híjar with Tortosa. Today, the old tracks have been transformed into a walking or cycling route, passing through tunnels, viaducts, forests, and rural landscapes. Its structure contrasts with the natural environment and creates one of the most characteristic images of this area. From the river, you can admire the bridge surrounded by trees, rocks, and vegetation. The Via Verde also offers the possibility of combining a visit to the Assut with a walking or cycling route, enjoying the landscape of the Matarraña from a different perspective. It is also one of the best places for photography, especially when the water is calm and reflects the landscape. As an example, you can visit Lledó, a very close town surrounded by nature, or Valderrobres, considered one of the most beautiful in the region for its historic town center, its castle, and its medieval bridge. If you have time, it's worth exploring its streets and using these towns as a starting point to discover other corners of the Matarraña. It's not a place designed for spending the day surrounded by large tourist facilities. Its appeal is precisely the opposite: water, nature, small towns, and a rural landscape that allows you to disconnect and enjoy a much more relaxed pace.
